Last year I received a frantic email from a business owner who needed a document drafted and edited-yesterday. He urgently was seeking help after letting one of his current business partners start the project. "It's just not what we were looking for and we have a team meeting in 3 hours. Can you help?" Hearing the desperation in his voice, I decided to learn more about him and his business. We spent 20 minutes on the phone discussing his business and his current needs. Luckily, I had just finished up a project and was able to spend a few hours helping this new client. I even had the chance to sit in on his team meeting to go through the changes we made.
With a background in education, I was able to make sure that the space created was comfortable and that this new client and his team felt that I understood their company's needs. It was not an "edit and return" situation. It was coaching. It was educating. It was leading and it was valued. He was relieved. His team was relieved. I was fufilled.
If your business doesn't already have a writing guru on staff, get one, or at least work with a contractor. Not everyone feels comfortable writing, just like not everyone feels they can nail the pythagorean theorem. A writing coach helps a company build their confidence as communicators, allowing their messages to be clear and impactful. Let your writing coach be your business partner and you will see your company soar.
